5 most influential albums of all time
I recently composed a list of the five most influential albums on rock music, here they are with an explination:
1. King of the Delta Blues Singers, Robert Johnsson.
Robert Johnsson, who lived in the 1920's, had no knowledge of rock 'n roll. Infact, rock 'n roll wouldn't enter the and influenced every single rock band that came out of Britain in the 60's, as well as having an enourmas influence of the folk scene in the U.S.
2. Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Beatles.
Probably the most important CD ever released. Before Pepper's came along the popular music world knew nothing of experimentation. Every single song was very similar to the next. Pepper's changed that, and without this album the music scene today would be incredibly sterile and boring.
3. Velvet Underground and Nico, Velvet Underground.
The album which brought the avantgarde into the music scene. The total opposite of Sgt Peppers. Released in the same year 1967, there was no flower power on VU/Nico. It was a portrait of the darker side of life; heroin addiction, cold turkey, and S&M, but also love. It contained influences from different types of music, and was become one of the most hailed albums of all time. It especially influenced the punk rock scene of the 70's/80's
4. Never Mind the Bullocks, Heres the Sex Pistols
Changed the music scene totally. Despite the bands and albums faults (there are plenty) they totally changed everything yet known about music. In a normal decent world nobody would have bought the album, but in this world it became the symbol of an entire generation. Although more influential in Britain than the USA (the USA have always had their own punk influenses), it still created 1000's of copycat bands, and many more are being formed by the day.
5. Led Zeppelin II
Brought the heavy blues into the homes to stay. Inspired an entire music genre, the 70's heavy metal. Also a timeless classic with timeless riffs, lyrics and drum solos.
Many might lack modern bands, but that is because modern bands only do what has already been done. Strokes =VU, Oasis=Rolling Stones, etc. Ofcourse, indie is a different matter.
